The demand for roasted and decaffeinated coffee has increased higher than in 2020 for coffee drinkers at home, the enjoyment outside the home, typically in social settings where the culture of drinking coffee together at all times of the day has become commonplace. 87% of the Spanish population aged 18 to 64 drink coffee and 70% do so daily. The average is 2.2 cups a day.
The Barraquito coffee is actually a representative of the Canary Islands in Spain, and it is described as more of a cocktail. The traditional drink consists of a layer of condensed milk, followed by a liqueur made from citrus, vanilla, herbs and spices, espresso and a layer of milk foam, topped with lemon zest and cinnamon. The order of the layers is also important for a true Spanish experience. The word “coffee” in Spain usually refers to Espresso.
Popular coffees in Spain are: Café solo – black; Cortado – with sweetened condensed milk and a small amount of milk or milk foam; Café con leche – half coffee, half milk (usually whipped); Café americano – filtered coffee, also used to refer to a diluted café solo; Café con hielo – a glass filled with ice cubes, sugar added, and coffee poured in; Carajillo – add a splash of liqueur, brandy or rum.
