The French Republic, is a country located primarily in Western Europe. Coffee was introduced to France by P. de la Roque in Marseilles in 1644. In 1669, the Turkish Ambassador introduced coffee to his luxurious parties in Paris. By 1672, the first coffee house was opened in Paris. There are also documents stating that Café Procope was the first one opened in 1686 or 1689.
France holds an important position in Europe's green coffee imports. France also has a large coffee roasting industry, besides large multinational roasters, France also has many small and medium-sized roasters. France is the fifth largest importer of green coffee in Europe, in2020, France's green coffee imports amounted to 229,000 tons, accounting for about 6.4% of total European imports. Between 2016 and 2020, French imports of green coffee grew at an average annual rate of  6.4%. The largest suppliers to France are Brazil, Vietnam and Honduras. France is the 17th country among the 20 largest coffee importing countries of Dak Lak (Vietnam).
It is estimated that 68% of French people drink coffee regularly, but 14% never drink coffee and 55% drink it several times a day at home (at home or with friends and family). Commonly popular coffees in France include: Café au lait – a strong cappuccino with a little milk foam; Café Brulot – Cognac mixed with sugar and coffee; Café Crème – coffee with cream or whipped milk; Café Filtre – filter coffee, slightly weaker than espresso; Café natur – black coffee.
