The Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. Coffee was first grown in Honduras in 1804, but it was not until the second half of the 20th century that coffee became a major agricultural crop. Coffee was grown in the southern regions of Copan and La Paz before civil war broke out in the 1980s and 1990s.
In April 2018, studies identified four new strains of coffee leaf rust in Honduras. Coffee producers have struggled with the spread of rust, which has increased production costs, but in 2019, Honduras ranked 6th in global coffee production, behind only Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, Indonesia and Ethiopia.Honduran coffee is known for its richness and depth, with flavors ranging from tropical fruit to chocolate... The traditional Honduran "Joe" coffee has the unexpected addition of pepper and sugar.
