From ancient times, there was a vast land south of the Yangtze River where Vietnamese ethnic groups lived, and developed a glorious wet rice civilization. "Van Lang was a country in the middle and lower part of the Red River, ruled by the Hung dynasty for 18 generations; after Van Lang was Lac Viet". Author Tran Gia Ninh wrote this in the article "Looking back on the history of Bach Viet and the sinicization of Bach Viet," posted in tiasang.com.vn. He said, "this is not solely pure Vietnamese myth, but has also been recorded in ancient Chinese history." The strip of land known as Linh Nam and Dong Hai was occupied by the Han and sinicized for over a thousand years, ultimately merging with the Han, except for Lac Viet.

After over 1000 years of slavery and sinicization, fighting to retain Vietnamese identity and culture, Lac Viet had finally gained independence and went through different names and reigning dynasties, namely  Ngo, Dinh, Early Le, Ly, Tran, Ho, Later Le, etc., creating Vietnam the way it is today. Archaeological discoveries have also revealed that the Southern communities, started from Vietnam and extended along the coastal area to the southwestern region of Guangdong province, these are societies with an agricultural background, along with stone and ceramic tools for production and daily life. But the main difference was the advent of one of the most significant antiquities in the region:  bronze drums are found mainly in the regions of Yunnan, Guangxi, and northern Vietnam.

The flow of Vietnamese culture, in which pottery & bronze drums are the most iconic, along with the Eastern tea ceremony style, are the catalysts that inspired the creation of Zen coffee culture. It can be said that the sets and tools for enjoying Zen Coffee are built on the roots and culture of the VIET, along with other countries across Asia.
