Introduced by the French
in the mid-19th century, when fresh milk was scarce, the Vietnamese creatively
combined phin-brewed coffee with sweetened condensed milk. Its bold, creamy
flavor and simple yet refined preparation have made it an inseparable part of
Vietnam’s coffee culture. Coffee in Vietnam has weathered the tides of history
to become a cornerstone of the nation’s culinary heritage. Today, the phrase
“going for coffee” not only refers to enjoying a cup, but also to building
friendships or diving into work. The Michelin Guide has praised Vietnamese iced
milk coffee as a “true gem” among Vietnam’s coffee offerings.
