MALAYSIA

Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia. Coffee came to Malaysia in the 19th century, but it wasn't until 1898 that coffee culture began to develop when Chinese immigrants moved to Malaysia.
Malaysia has its own unique roasting method, developed from Chinese practices. After conventional roasting, the coffee beans are mixed with melted sugar and margarine until the beans turn caramel with the sugar before being ground into coffee powder after cooling. Using this traditional process, the coffee develops a distinctive aroma and flavor with a slightly burnt and slightly bitter taste that makes the coffee beans delicious and rich.
Independent coffee shop chains are changing the way many Malaysians consume coffee in public. There are many cafes that offer a variety of coffees and their number is growing rapidly due to the coffee drinking culture. The increase in coffee consumption in Malaysia is attributed to a number of factors, including urbanization and busy lives. Traditional Malaysian coffee drinking is not suitable for modern lifestyles.
Malaysians' coffee consumption in 2021 and 2022 was 800,000 60kg bags, as Malaysians' daily habits used to be warm drinks like tea and now coffee has formed a habit for Malaysians.
Malaysia's expansion of national and local coffee chain stores has increased the appeal of coffee to young people. However, the most popular coffees are still ipoh white (coffee with condensed milk), kopi O (black coffee with sugar) Kopi Tarik or Teh Tarik (Pulled Coffee or Tea)… brewed in the traditional way.
