Canada is a country in North America. Coffee is much more popular in Canada (per capita) than in the US, perhaps due to the more affordable national coffee chain Tim Hortons. A 2023 report from the Canadian Coffee Association found that 71% of Canadians drink coffee every day. That's 6% higher than the US population but down slightly from 2022, when 73% reported the same. Notably, 2022 is the highest since 2017, so it's still impressive. 20% of Canadian coffee drinkers in 2023 reported ordering at least one specialty beverage in the past week. Younger Canadians often drink cold brew in the summer months. Coffee consumption in Canada increased by more than 19% in the decade from 2013 to 2023, the average consumption is 6.5 kg of coffee/person per year. Canada, in tenth place, is the only country not in Europe to make it to the top ten coffee drinkers in the world.
Traditional Coffee is the Favourite Type of Coffee in Canada, despite so many options to choose from, the Canadian coffee drinker is still most likely to choose a traditional coffee. Out of the roughly two-thirds of Canadian coffee drinkers who visit coffee shops at least a mong, over 50% prefer a traditional brew. However, specialty coffees, such as cappuccinos, espressos, café mochas, lattes, and macchiatos, are growing in popularity. Approximately a third of Canadian coffee drinkers prefer an espresso-based drink.
Colombia is the leading exporter of coffee to Canada, with the trade value of coffee imported into Canada from Colombia amounting to over $362 million that year in 2022. Brazil is the second largest exporter, with a trade value of around $201 million
